John grew up in a christian home in St. Paul, Minnesota.  He was let to the Lord at eight years of age by his father.  Sometime during his Junior High years he laid aside his dream of being a big-league baseball player, and yielded to God's call to be a missionary.

Sylvia was saved when she was fifteen years old.  After attending many different denomination churches, she was convinced through God's Word that she needed to be saved.

John and Sylvia left for Brazil in 1967.  They worked initially to establish two Ticuna Indian congregations.  They are presently working to establish a Brazilian national church in the town of Jutai.
